Parts compatibility in 2026: why fitment data decides your sales

Most automotive listings that underperform on eBay are not priced wrong — they are simply invisible. Buyers start from their vehicle, not from a brand, and a listing without complete compatibility data never enters that search.

How buyers actually search

A buyer selects their registration or make, model, year and engine, then browses the filtered results. Anything without matching fitment data is excluded before price, feedback or postage is ever considered.

That is why we treat compatibility as the first-class field in every catalogue we prepare, not an afterthought bolted on once titles are written.

  • Make, model, variant, engine code and year range on every applicable vehicle
  • OE reference numbers kept alongside the supplier MPN
  • Position and side data (front/rear, left/right) where the part requires it

The three data faults we see most

Supplier files rarely arrive listing-ready. Across the catalogues we process, the same three faults account for the majority of rejected or unfiltered listings.

  • Fitment held as free text in a description instead of structured compatibility rows
  • Missing or malformed EAN and MPN values, which break both search and returns handling
  • Duplicate SKUs describing the same part under different brand spellings

What we do about it

We clean and normalise the catalogue first, then generate compatibility rows, item specifics and titles from the corrected data — so every listing carries the same standard.

The agreed batch is then imported directly into your own eBay account. You keep the account, the feedback and the customer relationship.

Takeaway

Fitment data is the filter that decides whether your parts appear at all. Get it structured once and every listing benefits.
